5 Signs Your Website Needs a Little Glow-Up

Because sometimes even a perfectly good website needs a fresh coat of digital paint.

Let’s be honest. When was the last time you actually looked at your business website?

Not just opened it to check your phone number was still there. I mean properly looked at it.

If the answer is somewhere between “a few months ago” and “I’d rather not say”, we might need to have a little chat. 😂

Your website doesn’t need to be the fanciest thing on the internet. But it should reflect your business as it is today, not the business you were three years ago.

So, how do you know when it’s time for a little refresh?

1. Your website looks like it’s been stuck in a time capsule

Remember when every website had tiny text, flashing banners and approximately 47 different fonts?

Some of us are still recovering.

Design trends come and go, and there’s absolutely no need to redesign your website every time a new colour becomes fashionable.

But if your website feels noticeably dated, cluttered or difficult to navigate, it might be giving customers the wrong impression.

A refresh doesn’t necessarily mean starting again. Sometimes updated fonts, a more consistent colour palette and a little breathing room can make an enormous difference.

The goal isn’t to look trendy. It’s to look like you.

2. It looks lovely on a laptop… and dreadful on your phone

Picture this.

Someone finds your business on Google, clicks through to your website and immediately has to pinch, zoom and scroll sideways just to read what you do.

They’re probably not sticking around for long.

Your website should be easy to use on mobile phones, tablets and computers.

That means readable text, buttons that are easy to tap, images that fit properly and menus that don’t require a degree in engineering to navigate.

If your website is giving people a thumb workout just to find your contact details, it’s probably time for some attention. 😂

3. Your business has changed, but your website hasn’t

Businesses evolve.

You might have introduced new services, changed your prices, moved premises or completely transformed your brand.

But does your website know that?

If you’re constantly explaining that you actually offer something different now, or apologising because the information online is outdated, your website isn’t doing its job.

Your website should reflect where your business is now — and where you’d like it to go.

Sometimes that’s as simple as updating your content. Other times, a more substantial refresh makes sense.

4. Finding anything feels like a treasure hunt

Here’s a little test.

Imagine you’ve never visited your website before.

Can you quickly work out what your business offers, who it’s for and how to get in touch?

Or are you clicking through six different pages, wondering where on earth the contact form has gone?

A good website shouldn’t make visitors work hard.

Clear headings, straightforward navigation and obvious calls to action can make the whole experience feel easier.

And the easier it is for someone to find what they need, the easier it is for them to take the next step.

Your customers shouldn’t need a map, a compass and a packed lunch to find your prices.

5. You’re a little embarrassed to send people the link

Ouch. This one’s a biggie.

Someone asks if you’ve got a website and you immediately say:

“Yes, but it’s a bit outdated…”

Or:

“Please ignore the homepage. I’ve been meaning to fix it.”

Sound familiar?

Your website should be something you’re happy to share.

It doesn’t need to win design awards. It just needs to represent your business professionally, make things easy for customers and feel like something you’re proud to put your name to.

If you’re reluctant to show people your website, it’s worth asking yourself why.

So, does your website need a complete redesign?

Not necessarily!

Sometimes a few thoughtful changes can transform how a website looks and feels.

Fresh photographs, clearer wording, better spacing, updated colours or a simpler layout might be all you need.

And if your website is already working beautifully for your business? Brilliant! You might not need to change much at all.

The important thing is knowing what needs improving before spending money on a redesign.
